Christmas Traditions

Every year a few days before Christmas my mom and my sisters bakes lots of red velvet cookies. They probably make atleast 200 cookies along with the home made icing to go on them. The cookies are mostly given out to our friends and neighbors along with some brought to the Christmas partys my parents go to. All of the cookies are decerated with icing and muti colored sprinkles. I love this tradition because I get to eat all the cookies I want just after there baked.

Presents

I remember last Christmas the present I wanted all year was a snowboard. Because the year before I went snowboarding with some friends and I decided to try snowboarding. So after I rented the equipment I hit the slopes. It took a long time to get used to it but eventually I could snowboard pretty good. So I was instantly hooked on it and I knew I had to buy one. So I begged and begged for my parents to get me one for Christmas but they deciced it was too expensive. Which at about $200 a board, I dont blame them. So I eventually convinced them to pay for half of it and I would pay the other half. The week after I got it I took all my friends and indroduced them to snowboarding.

Santa

When I was little, my sisters and I all believed in Santa. We would all write a letter to Santa with toys we wanted and why we have been nice. Mom always sent us a reply letter pretending to be Santa. On Christmas Eve my parents would make sounds and say that it was Santas raindeer on the roof. Then on Christmas Morning we would wake up our parents and rush to open presents. The cookies and milk we laid out for Santa were always eaten. There was always a note that Santa left answering our questions we sent to him in our letters. Eventually we all figures out that Santa wasn't real but we enjoyed the time we did believe.

Thanksgiving Food

I am really excited about next Thursday because of all the amazing food I get to eat. Every Thanksgiving my family travels to my gradmothers house two hours away. Our whole family is there and everyone brings in some type of dish. Of course my gradmother fixes the turkey and stuffing. I think my favortite dish is stuffing with some mashed potatoes and brown gravy. After we stuff ourselfs with food we usually talk or watch football. Sometimes we go outside and start our own backyard football game.

Rain

Rain means several things to me. It usually means that I won't be able to play any sports or hangout with my friends. Activitys might have to be moved indoors or completely canceled. Rain brings much needed refeshment to our crops which is our livelyhood. Rain can be a wanted during a hot day at soccer practice or doing chores around the farm. But rain can make us sad and depressed compared to a bright shinny day.

Open Season

Tomorrow, November 14, is the opening day of Deer season. To me this is very important because I love to hunt. There are so many things about hunting that makes me enjoy it. Waking up at 3 am so you can get to that lucky spot before the deer. Trudging through mud and creek beds getting to your deer stand. Practicing and sighting in your gun all the week before in preparation and in anticipation. Sitting with a blind for hours with your best friend or your girl. That tingly feeling you get down your spine when a monster buck gets within range. Then that inter peace you get when you see him in your crosshairs, take a deep breath, and squeeze the trigger.

School Projects

I just did the English projects and I didn't really think it helped me learn more about the Canterbury Tales. The problem with projects is that it seems that every class assigns them at the same time and I have trouble getting them all done in time. I also feel that most people wait to start the projects until the night before and end up having a bad grade. It's hard getting a class's project done when the teacher gives no class time for it and gives daily homework on top of that.

Choices

My choices in life will affect people younger than me because I set an example. My little cousins might look at how I went to college and they might want to follow that same path. My childen will look at what I did with my life and education and do the same. If I went to college then they would not have an excuse to say, "Well dad you didn't go to college, why should I?" I want my choices to be good ones that I can be proud of.

Scary Movie

A recent movie that I saw was "Jennifer's Body." This movie didn't really scare me as much as freak me out. Some of the scenes were just gross and disgusting. There were a few parts of the movie that made people jump but overall it was a stupid movie. It freaked me out on the drive home because it was foggy and I worried that the vampire was going to jump out in front of my car like in the movie.

Halloween

Walking down the road
There was a very large toad
He was wearing a very pointy black hat
I, perturbed, asked what are you doing with that hat?
The toad replied with, "Just casting a spell on your face"
I cried, "Oh no, please not my face!"
The toad stopped and stared and then began to say,
"Yea your right, your face is already bad enough."

Childhood Fears

When I a kid I wasn't scared of too many things. I was never afraid of the dark but I got deathly scared of storms. I would watch TV watching the weather and that would make it worse. Everytime a storm approached I would watch the clouds because I was so scared of tornados more than anything else. I would acutally get really sick when a bad storm came and I would puke. My mom would have to be with me because I felt so sick.
Now days I'm not scared of storms at all, I love watching them. Nomally when a storm is coming I like to go outside and enjoy the show. I now think storms are really cool and intresting. I have even gotten to video a tornado funnel that went by our house and I was outside the whole time.

Autumn

Autumn means the end of summer. To me it means no more swims in the pool or a day fishing at the lake. Days get shorter and cold nights are getting longer. The leaves are changing and the flowers are all but gone. It means going to a friday night football game with friends and painting up even with it freezing outside. Corn and soybeans are busy getting getting harvested with farmers praying to get it all in before the rain. It means a new change of clothes and more time cooped up inside. Mornings are cool and foggy with the dew glaring from the dawn. Some days you can't help but stop and enjoy Autumn.

Reading and Writing

If I could not read and write my life be be drasticly different. I wouldn't be in school and I probably couldn't take care of myself very much. I wouldn't be able to drive, read signs, or write directions. I would need somebody that could read to interprate things for me so I could do daily things. Without being able to read I wouldn't know what was going on in the world because the newspaper would be useless. Without being able to write I couldn't write checks or apply for credit cards.

Beowulf Movie

I have to say that the movie we watched in class about Beowulf was really bad. To me it seemed to be the worst movie I have seen in a long time. It didn't follow the book hardly at all. Having Grendel's mother as a attractive women that suduces Beowulf was tacky. All of that was just stuff that confuses the viewer and gets off the real stories path. Also having Beowulf fight Grendel naked was deffinatly not nesessary to the story. I personally love the Beowulf story according to the book but if I had seen this movie first it would have been a different story. Maybe there are some good movies about Beowulf, but it was most certainly not this one.

Spring

Spring makes me think about a new beginning because it comes after winter. It symbolizes a fresh start from a cold, plain winter. Spring is the start up of sports after a long off season. I finally get to get outside and exercise and play some soccer or baseball. It also has the best tempature because its not too hot, like in the summer; and not too cold, like in the winter. It also means that everything starts to grow again like trees and flowers.

Life Without Potatoes

My life without potatoes would be very difficult. I usually eat some sort of potato product everyday. Such as french fries, mashed potato, sweet potato or potato slices. Without these delious side items, meals would be less tasty. I would probably have to find some other food to replace potatoes but it wouldn't be the same.

Leaders

I admire the kind of leader that does what he knows is right. Not being influenced by outside people or somebody complaining, but sticking on the plan that was decided on. Also I admire leaders who don't abuse there powers or try to lead people in the wrong direction. Leaders that I usually admire most are my coaches.

Friendship

"Friendship doubles joy and halves grief" This proverb means alot to me because my friends are very important to me. They can be fun to be around and can help you if you have a problem. It has been true in my life when we won district in soccer last year and we were really happy. It made even better that we were all friends and got to enjoy it together.

Similar Sire, Similar Scion

This meaning is, "Like Father, Like Son". This applies to which family member I am most like because I look and act like my dad. My dad is very cheap with money and will go out of his to get a deal and I somewhat do that too. My dad is also very laid back and calm and I usually act the same.

Family

Family means a lot to me. I feel like I have to do everything I can to help or protect my other family members. My place in my family is to help my two sisters and help work with my dad.
